Explore the different shooting Disciplines availabLe at Hamilton Pistol Club

We offer 7 of the 9 shooting disciplines available in New Zealand and shoot these in club matches each month.  Club matches are your entry to the sport, where you can learn the rules and techniques in a safe and friendly environment.

Many top shooters attend these matches, and they are always willing to provide advice and guidance to those new to the sport.

Check out each of the shooting styles below and see which ones are a bit of you!  There really is something for everyone.

Cowboy ACTION

Cowboy Action Shooting recreates life in the Wild West by shooting a course of fire designed to depict an old west historical shootout, a movie scene or just someone's idea of the wild west.

IPSC

Practical shooting is a dynamic sport that awards competitors equally for accuracy, power and speed, and which is represented by the Latin phrase "Diligentia, Vis Celeritas" or DVC.

IPSC Rifle and Shotgun

IPSC Shotgun and Rifle Matches are run by the PNZ IPSC section. Shotgun and Rifle matches are run as separate matches, just like Handgun matches.

MULTIGUN

Competitors use three different firearms— a Pistol, a Rifle, and a Shotgun. Matches involve courses where the shooter must move through different stages and engage targets in a variety of different positions. Each stage will require the use of two or three of the different firearms and require the shooter to transition between them.

Action Shooting

Action Pistol is one of the most demanding handgun competitions available to the pistol shooting world. Handguns used in Action Pistol shooting fall into four categories for competition: Open, Open Modified, Metallic Sight, and Production.

Service Pistol

Service Pistol comes to us from Australia, where it was first adopted as an Australian Nationals Championship Event in 1977, and shot with pistols and revolvers in calibres from 9mm to .45.

ISSF

The main events are 10 and 50-metre pistol and 25-metre pistol events which require autoloaders or revolvers.
